The coast of Wales is Best in Travel 2012 says Lonely Planet

One of the best places you could ever  choose to visit is the coast of Wales. This is not just the opinion of a happy traveller with a penchant for this glorious region, it is the verdict of Lonely Planet. They have voted coastal Wales Best in Travel for 2012, in their 7th annual collection of the best places to visit and things to do in the world for next year. So when it comes to booking your 2012 summer holiday it has to be Wales.

The book states that it is a wonderful thing to be able to walk along an entire country’s coastline and be able to explore every estuary, indent, cliff face and nook and cranny. There is no better way to appreciate the soul of a nation. In 2012, Wales will become the only country in the world where this is possible thanks to the AWCP All Wales Coast Path which is due to be completed in May.

This will run down the entire coastline between Queensway in the North and Chepstow in the South, and take in dominant castle, sandy bays and dramatic serrations. The AWCP will make and impressive 1377km of coastline accessible to all.

The highly anticipated title highlights 10 countries, 10 regions and 10 cities which have been handpicked by Lonely Planet’s travel experts as the best places to visit in 2012. Uganda “a rising adventure sports and wildlife-spotting destination” claims the top country accolade, whilst “beautiful and wild” Coastal Wales is the top pick of regions around the world and London is the “essential” city. What a great recommendation for your summer holiday!

Lonely Planet’s Tom Hall contributed to the book. He said, “These are some of Lonely Planet’s must-see spots for 2012, either because they have something special going on next year, there’s a lot of buzz about the place, or because we are tipping it as an up-and-coming spot that you should visit, before the crowds get there.”

Tom continued, “As well as the novel ability to walk its entire coastline, the region comes out top because of its wildlife, great surf, castles and fantastic spots such as Barrafundle Bay and St David’s. Now that Wills and Kate have set up home in the area it has also received the Royal stamp of approval.”

As well as the hottest countries, cities and regions to visit Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2012 contains inspirational lists to get the travel juices flowing. From the 10 best-value destinations for 2012, to the top places for intrepid romantics, to the top 007 destinations, the lists offer some great ideas of where to go and what to do next year.
